Driving Decarbonization: A Comprehensive GHG Inventory and Roadmap for the Agroforestry Sector

TruCarbon is committed to accelerating sustainability efforts in the agroforestry industry. In this project, we developed a detailed Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory and crafted a strategic decarbonization roadmap, setting the foundation for long-term environmental impact. Our approach combines rigorous data analysis with actionable climate strategies, guiding the transition to a net-zero future. Additionally, we conducted a pre-feasibility study (pre-FS) for agroforestry operations, ensuring the tree planting initiatives are sustainable and aligned with environmental goals.

Climate Action and Strategies

Our contributions focus on creating measurable change through the following key initiatives:

  • GHG Inventory Report: Providing transparent emissions data for 2022, 2023, and 2024, enabling businesses to understand their current environmental footprint
  • Decarbonization Roadmap: Designing a pathway for achieving Net Zero by 2050, integrating renewable energy sources and sustainable land use practices.
  • Agroforestry Pre-FS: Assessing the feasibility and sustainability of large-scale tree planting operations, with a focus on long-term carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration.

Scope and Coverage

The project’s scope covers the critical areas of emissions and sustainability to empower the agroforestry industry with the tools to reduce their carbon footprint:

1. GHG Inventory Report

  • Standards Applied: ISO 14064-1
  • Geographic Coverage: Indonesia
  • Emissions category:
    • Category 1: Direct GHG Emissions
      • Emissions from stationary and mobile combustion
      • Industrial process emissions and removals
      • Fugitive emissions from anthropogenic systems
      • Land Use, Land Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) emissions
    • Category 2: Indirect GHG Emissions from Imported Energy
      • Emissions from imported electricity and other energy sources
    • Category 3: Indirect GHG Emissions from Transportation
      • Upstream and downstream transport emissions
      • Emissions from employee commuting, client/visitor transport, and business travel
    • Category 4: Indirect GHG Emissions from Products Used by the Organization
      • Emissions from purchased goods, services, and capital goods
      • Emissions from waste disposal and use of assets
    • Category 5: Indirect GHG Emissions Associated with Products
      • Emissions from processing and the use of sold products
      • End-of-life emissions, including those from leased assets and investments

2. Decarbonization Roadmap

This roadmap sets out actionable strategies to achieve Sari Net Zero by 2050. It focuses on:

  • Full transition to renewable energy (RECs)
  • Expansion of rooftop solar power systems (PLTS)
  • Scalable agroforestry projects for carbon capture and biodiversity restoration

3. Agroforestry Pre-FS

The pre-feasibility study (pre-FS) aims to assess the viability and environmental impact of agroforestry projects in Sumatra and Java.

  • Land Area: 12,000+ hectares
  • Compliance: Verra certification
  • SDGs Potential:

By supporting the agroforestry sector with detailed GHG inventories and a clear decarbonization roadmap, TruCarbon is playing a pivotal role in advancing sustainability. Our efforts empower businesses to make data-driven decisions, adopt cleaner technologies, and ensure their operations contribute positively to climate goals. Through these initiatives, we are helping shape a sustainable future, one project at a time.
